The Playschool had a Bakery Learning Center so all of our friends could make sweet treats for each other.

The Playschool Bakery had kitchen tools,

 baked goods,

 ingredients,

oven, fridge, and microwave.

You cannot bake without doing the dishes afterwards!

Ancient Egypt

The grade 5 class has been learning about Ancient Egypt this term. We learned important historical things like how important the Nile River was to their culture and agriculture. We learned about the pharaohs and their fascinating burial rituals, mummification and pyramids.

One of the things that we enjoyed most was learning what the Ancient Egyptians believed happened once they died: They thought that their hearts would be weighed on a scale against “Maat’s feather of truth.” If the heart was lighter than this feather, it meant that they had lived a good life, and would be allowed to live in the afterlife. They did however have to provide their own body and materials for the afterlife, which is why they carefully preserved the corpses and buried them with many of their belongings.

We also learned how the Ancient Egyptian culture is most likely evidence of an Ancient Church culture: they started out making statues to help them to remember different attributes of the Lord. Eventually though, they forgot that they represented the Lord and began to worship the images, or individual gods, themselves.
We went on a field trip to the ROM which has an excellent display of Ancient Egyptian artifacts, including a mummy or two. Each student also made a small model of an Egyptian tomb or burial chamber, the photos of which are shown here

Pen Pals in Nunavut

Jasmine and Kaylin are very excited to have pen pals in Nunavut. They are looking at photos of their pen pals and friends at Nuiyak School in Sanikiluaq.

Monday Afternoon Safari

The Afternoon Kindergarten students are going on Safari to explore the great outdoors with Ms. Williams. I wonder what they will see today!

Sharing the Lord's Love Around the World

Playschool has been learning about ourselves, our families and cultures around the world. As a school we participated in Operation Christmas Child, a Christian outreach organization that reaches out to needy children of all faiths around the world.

Playschool collected enough items to fill 10 boxes for 6 boys and 4 girls!

Algoma Trip

Kaylin and Jasmine are learning about the Group of Seven this term and later in the term they will be learning about Canada. What better way to combine these units than to take trip to Ontario’s North to see the Canadian Shield , Lake Superior and the beautiful fall colours so evident in those Canadian paintings.

The Junior Room's Full-Body Portraits

Grades 3 and 4 Try Toe Shoes

We have been reading a book called To Dance-a ballerina's graphic novel about the ballerina Siena Cherson Siegel. We wanted to try out some toe shoes so that we could better understand the story and what a ballerina has to wear.

We found out that these shoes are very uncomfortable and that it is very difficult to stand on toe. Kaylin and You-Jin were able to stand on toe, but only by holding on to something; they tried to stand on toe using only one foot, but couldn't do it for more than a few seconds.
