Symmetry

 

The children in the Primary Room are learning about 2-D shapes.  This activity was to practice making symmetrical figures. Using a ruler, as the line of symmetry, the children duplicated the mirror image of their designs.

Buoyancy in the Classroom

Our primary room had fun testing the buoyancy of classroom objects today.

The students were given a table on which they had to record their objects, hypothesize whether they would float or sink, and record their results.

Math Manipulatives

The Primary room used manipulatives to represent their adding skills today! The Grade 2 students used base ten and one blocks to represent addition sentences up to one hundred.

 

Our Grade 1 students used a variety of manipulatives to demonstrate fact families up to twenty!

 Our understanding of addition was later practiced in our math notebooks using numerals. It was a great way to start our unit!

Primary Students go to the Creek

The Primary Class enjoyed walking to the creek last week. The students skipped stones and found pretty rocks. A very enjoyable trip all around!

2 and 3 Dimensional Objects

 The students in grades 1 and 2 got creative on Friday while learning about 2 and 3 dimensional shapes!

Flying Planes

The Grade 5 and 6 class learned about flight and built their own cardboard airplanes.

The younger students helped measure the planes’ flying distances.

Symmetry

 To help the Primary Class understand the concept of symmetry the class did an experiment using paint and paper.

The paint was poured onto one side of the paper, then the student would fold that piece of paper in half to see what would happen to the other side.

 The results were quite interesting!

The Grade 1 and 2 class show what they have learned about symmetry on this bulletin board.

Capacity

The grade 2 class explores capacity in math class.  This student predicted how fill the glass would appear after putting in 1/2 cup of juice.

 Although is does not look it, all of these glasses have the same amount of juice in them!

 We invited the Grade 1 class to have some "capacity juice"(fruit punch) in fancy glasses with us.  They were surprised to learn that all the glasses had equal amounts of juice in them!

Boomwhackers

The grade 1 and 2 class work together to make beautiful, harmonized music with "Boomwhackers". They each hit their long plastic tubes on the floor to produce a certain note!

Math Fun

The Grade 1 and 2 students have a great time playing a math game together!

Bar Graphs

A Grade 2 student produced a great bar graph!

This student interviewed students and teachers to determine what is the most popular choice of candy.  Rockets were the most popular by a mile!

Spelling

Spelling words are fun to practice writing with waxed yarn!

Learning How to Tell Time

Grade 2 was learning about telling time in math class. As a final activity, the Grade 2's customized the clock in the main office to display 15 minute intervals. Lots of people have been commenting positively on it. Students also customized the clock in the Grade 1/2 classroom.

Our Dinosaur

We drew a dinosaur on the pavement in chalk. From head to tail, it took up
the whole length of our play yard.

As you can see, a child is not even as big as one leg of this giant beast!

The Primary Room goes Hiking at Rattlesnake Point

We had a FANTASTIC time at Rattlesnake Point last Thursday! We hiked in the woods and we explored the caves!
