Weaving Landscapes: Grades 5 & 6

We began this art project by learning how to create a sense of space and depth in a landscape—the concepts of foreground, middle ground and background. Then we sketched our own imagined landscapes; made a second copy by tracing it; painted one copy with warm colors and another with cool colors. Finally, we cut them into strips and carefully weaved the two works together.

Mosaics

The Grade 3 and 4 class made their own mosaics just like the Ancient Romans they learned about.

Decorating Candles

For a family Easter gift, the Grade 3 and 4 class decorated candles.

Us Mural

The Kindergarteners worked as a team to make an "Us" mural for "Uu" week.

After it was finished, they reflected on the process.

Rain and Water

 Playschool friends are discovering lots of things about rain and water!

The World

The Grade Threes and Fours made world maps out of plasticine.

Kindergarten Bulletin Boards

The bulletin boards around the Kindergarten classroom display the children's artwork and remind them about what they have learned.

Making Sugar Plums

The upper grades were thankful to have a special guest come in to teach them how to make sugar plums.  Thank you Lynn Starkey for volunteering your time and expertise.  A great time was had by all!

 



Quilts

One of the most exciting things that the Grade 5’s did this year was to make quilts! It was a long-ranging project, but everybody stuck it out and did a great job. We started in September, took a break during December, and finished in early spring. Each of the students assembled the pieces on sewing on machines and then sewed the binding on by hand. As you can see from the photos, the final products are really terrific!
