Olivet Immersed in Nature!

Our natural world has always been important at Olivet’s Playschool program. As our preschoolers know, The Lord makes everything.

Psalms 96:12
"Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord".

At Olivet, we nurture learning through a child’s senses and exploration of their environment. For intellectual and creative development, interaction with the outdoors is a natural extension of the learning that happens in the classroom. Recently, this philosophy was reinforced with our preschool teachers Ms. Williams and Ms. Todd through a conference offered at The Toronto Waldorf School and after reading the recommended book, Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv.

Such excitement! Our class thoroughly enjoyed walking through the hydro field’s meadow, stopping to observe and discuss a variety of insects and plant life along the way. We stopped at Mimico Creek (near Echo Valley)to watch the ducks, perfect our aim throwing stones into the creek and explore the banks of the creek for more crawling and flying creatures.

The Primary Room Visit Crawford Lake

We had a super time at Crawford Lake!
The longhouses were very interesting and we even got to go for quite a hike in the forest. We really got an idea of what life for the natives was like.

Here we are at the entrance to the Longhouse village
